The purpose is to provide readers the theory and skills needed to lead and participate in group activities. Group and committee work are essential components of most positions in healthcare, and learning more about how to best manage group interactions is a valuable skill and asset. The ideal audience would be students who are learning how to develop their own leadership skills and interactivity in groups. This book also would be an excellent resource for new leaders or anyone else wanting to know more about the psychology and management of group interactions. Each chapter is well designed and supported with prominent research in the area which supports the theory development with current and historical evidence. Many important topics for team leaders or managers are addressed: how to form groups, how best to structure and delegate group tasks, how to deal with special groups, and useful leadership skills. The book is well designed with large print, good use of white space, and bulleting and bolding of headings to enhance navigability. Multiple highlighted group leader challenges are available throughout the book to promote reflection on the theory and encourage application of some of the principles. The book includes many useful tips on how to operate in groups and manage conflict, with wonderful simulation activities at the end of each chapter to sharpen learning in this area. The simulation activities are excellent resources for use in a workshop or teaching environment. This is an excellent guide for key principles of leadership in managing group dynamics. The author obviously is very skilled and knowledge about human and organizational behavior. A very good resource for leaders.

This is a collection of tables to assist clinicians in developing a differential diagnosis of the commonly encountered complaints in the primary care setting. The strength of this book lies in the compare and contrast concept that this format makes intuitive. The information is presented in an easy to use manner, highly useful for busy practitioners. The stated purpose is to provide primary care practitioners a way to formulate a differential while intentionally stopping before therapeutics are considered. This significantly adds to the utility and longevity of the book, as therapeutics significantly change over time while the art of developing the differential diagnosis remains fairly stable. Because of this emphasis, this book is a highly valuable tool. U.K. general practitioners working in the outpatient arena are the primary audience, but the book also has tremendous utility for all healthcare students to help them understand that each patient’s case in unique, with a sometimes overlapping or confusing spectrum of symptoms, and the value of constructing a differential before concluding what the working diagnosis may be. The tables are organized by symptoms and outline the major possibilities according to background and key signs and symptoms. There is a great list of abbreviations, and although the thrust throughout the medical community is to avoid such abbreviations, the reality is that many practitioners still use them. There is also a highly useful and complete index to help find specific terms quickly. This is a highly useful book to keep readily available in the outpatient office as a memory aid when confronted with a less-than-textbook presentation of symptoms.

This book is intended for medical students, residents, and practicing clinicians who are interested in reviewing or wish to understand the basic anatomic concepts of neurologic diagnosis. The authors focus on signs and symptoms elicited by the clinician at bedside as paramount in a neurologic diagnosis.
